From the tradition. "Righteous in his generations" (6:9): Rashi brings both readings — praise and limitation; that the Torah carries both is itself the lesson. The 120 years of building were an open door: whoever asked, heard the warning. The tzohar: window or glowing gem — the Midrash leaves it open. Noach hardly slept: for a year his day followed the feeding times (Tanchuma; Sanhedrin 108b) — first the animal, then the person (Berachot 40a), the order in a Jewish home to this day. The olive leaf: "better bitter from Hashem's hand than sweet from the hand of man" (Eruvin 18b). Measure for measure with the four groups — Rav Evers' own text in Volume 3. And from this chapter tradition derives the seven Noachide laws — the basic order for all humanity; Rav Evers treats them at length in his own book. The rainbow is therefore a sign for all peoples.
